Being a part of women empowered community

At the start of 2021 we relocated to Laura's home village in North Cambridgeshire, Myself (Jade) not knowing anyone began looking for local activity groups. This is when I came across the wildwandererswomen - a female ran group aimed at creating a safe space for women to heal in nature. Many events include Hiking, Wild Swimming, Walks, Water activities and camp outs. A country girl at heart, I love being outdoors exploring, however meeting new friends as an adult felt uncomfortable and difficult. My first event was at a Norfolk beach for a full moon event - sitting around a fire with 20+ strangers, swimming in the sea at sunset, meditating and toasting marshmallows - I felt so euphoric and free. I was hooked from the beginning, fully believing in everything the group stands for, with many women completing challenges for women's aid, a charity close to my heart, I knew I wanted to help build the community.

When I joined there was a couple of thousand women & now the community has 40k + women all across the country with many events taking place weekly. Over the past year I have planned & hosted more events than I could count - pushing me out of my comfort zone with many 'firsts', the majority being with complete strangers of which most have become friends for life.

The highlight from this has been being one of four women that helped create our first women's big camp out festival summer 2022. We had around 400 women and children camp out in the beautiful Shropshire country side for the weekend - with several music acts, local food and drinks vendors, a large amount of children's activities from inflatables, petting zoo and glitter bar. There was also meditation, yoga & exercise classes along with wild swimming and SUP. It was incredible & and an amazing achievement for 4 complete novices with the support of a few amazing volunteers, this lit my passion for event management.
